As South Africa heralds in a new era in radio astronomy, converting the special expertise that we have in building radio telescopes like HERA, HIRAX and the SKA to other industries, and using it to develop the quality of life becomes important in an emerging economy.
The KwaZulu-Natal centre for Radio astronomy Economic Advancement, Technology and Entrepreneurship (KREATE), addresses this by bringing together the Astrophysics Research Centre (ARC), the eThekwini Municipality’s Economic Development Unit (EDU) and the KwaZulu-Natal industries.
